Firewalls are security solutions generally deployed on the perimeter of networks.

They are the dividing line between a private network and the public Internet or another untrusted network. They are considered by many to be one of the principle tools that must be deployed to protect any network.

Firewalls use rules to allow or prevent traffic from crossing these borders.

There are a variety of firewall solutions available within the marketplace today. The main types of firewalls are software based and hardware based.

Software based firewalls offer good protection to networks where high performance throughput is not critical.

Hardware based firewalls offer higher speeds and bespoke software that performs the firewall function. These hardware-based firewalls offer high performance and can be integrated into other control mechanisms such as email and URL filtering as well as VPN's and authentication devices.

Excis Networks offer both software and hardware based solutions. We can develop perimeter solutions using the latest firewall technology. The firewall technologies we deploy include the Cisco PIX firewall, Cisco's CBAC firewall software and Checkpoint firewall. These solutions can then be integrated into other secure functions. Such secure functions use packages such as Websense, TACACS and PKI as well as both the Microsoft and Cisco VPN clients.
