NETWORK MAINTENANCE > Formal Maintenance

If you have equipment installed, you must ensure that it is protected. Your organisation has invested in the availabilty of infrastructure as it services many elements of your business.

At Excis Networks we are able to support and maintain many different network technologies. Because of our knowledge and approach we are able to offer several packages. If we are given the opportunity to supply maintenance for your networks, then after a qualifying period you will either receive a discount against future maintenance costs or alternatively we will carry over a no claims / no callout discount to be used against any of the business offerings from Excis Networks.

So for example if you pay for 12 months maintenance and you do not have any failure within the 12 months, then depending on the level of cover you have for the maintenance, you may be able to trade the no claims for a discount against future costs. You may want a consultant for a day for a project that you may have, for instance.... In this case you can trade your no claims for this engineers time. Or, you may wish to trade your discount for hardware, instead. The choice is yours.

But, whatever your business requirement, we would suggest that you undertake the following exercise to reduce your maintenance costs.

Firstly at the time of installation, make sure your providers supply thorough and comprehensive documentation. This documentation should clearly identify the hardware components, software and design of your infrastructure.

Once this documentation has been received, identify the critical components to your business. Many organisations, due to historical reasons may not have accurate documentation. Although we advise every organisation to maintain accurate records, this is not a problem to us.

Identify your network components where you can and assign a maintenance priority to each device. For example if your business is based upon the world wide web, then your web servers and the infrastructure they directly rely upon must be maintained. With the other less critical equipment consider political impact. For example if your internal file servers infrastructure suffers an outage it may not be catastrophic, however if your accountancy department holds accounting information on the servers and they are calculating your organisations month end, then this will have a direct impact to your business.

Critical systems can be important at certain times of the month, less important at others. Once you have identified the politically important hardware, then examine the other less critical equipment and then assign a maintenance priority to it.

So after examining your infrastructure you find that you have five vital pieces of equipment that require to be replaced within the minimum time frame and you find that you have 2 pieces of equipment that are important for 3 days during the month.

All other equipment may be identified as important but not critical to business survival. If this is the case then please consider the following. When you approach a company such as Excis Networks to supply a maintenance contract, make sure that they quote you for your key systems. They should be able to supply quick response services to ensure that these systems are maintained. The same should be said for your politically important systems for the times specified. The lesser important systems need not have the same levels of maintenance priority assigned to them. Never the less they will still need a maintenance element so they are protected.

By classifying your systems, you should be able to reduce ongoing costs as equipment identified as non critical do not need premium maintenance cover. If however you do find that all of your equipment is critical due to the nature of your business, then Excis Networks can again assist.

We are more than happy to discuss any of your requirements and supply the right level of maintenance so your business is protected. If you require Excis Networks to quote for maintenance or alternatively if you wish us to assist you in procuring maintenance from a third party please contact us at info@excis.co.uk for more information.
